Set up a dictation hotkey

Create a global push-to-talk shortcut so you can dictate anywhere.

Record a hotkey

  1. Open Settings > Hotkey.
  2. Click Record Hotkey.
  3. Press the key combo you want to use.
  4. Confirm the Current field shows the right shortcut.

Use Clear to disable the hotkey.

Tip

Use at least one modifier key (Command, Option, Control, or Shift) to avoid conflicts.

Use push-to-talk

  • Press and hold the hotkey to start dictation.
  • Release the keys to stop and process the transcript.

If the hotkey does not register

  • Try a different combo if you see "Hotkey could not be registered".
  • Avoid shortcuts reserved by macOS or other apps.
